But a high school band doing a USO tour in a combat zone? That rings false to me. And then letting one of the children away from supervision? Not going to happen.
Apart from those two nits, I liked it very much, as I have liked your other stuff over the years.
“We both can't fit in my tube, …”. “Reid knelt beside the tube …”. “Still naked, Leilani knelt beside the tube …”. [Is “tube” Hawaiian for “tub”?
“… then continue their moonlight stroll another four blocks to the USO. As they got to the end of her street, they were faced with a great view to the west.Oh, Reid, look at the sunset.” (No way for author to know, but in 1941 the USO club was in Kailua; mountains to the west.)
“Hickam Field was home to Hawaii's army airfield and bomber base. It was also the headquarters for their air force.” (Air Corps; there wasn’t an “Air Force” in 1941.)
Dante's Infernal.” ! (“Inferno” of course)
He looked up and saw a burning oil slick drifting his way (Unrealistic; oil slick woudn’t drift in the harbor waters and he wouldn’t be able to detect it anyway.)
“Not far away, inside New Hope Church, the brave pastor led a terrified congregation in prayer …” (New Hope wasn’t started in Honolulu until 1995.
... a piece of flesh covered steal (“steel” surely)
It made me take a mental walk through all the places you visited in this story
It was nice to see the romance that gradually developed between the protagonists, at the same time that I felt the adrenaline flow through the plot that developed around them
The man's bipolarity took a pleasant turn when he was tamed by this helpless woman, who would not have survived without the man making use of his inner monster, taking him out for a walk among his enemies only when necessary
Interesting work, I liked it very much
Regards

Felicitaciones, excelente historia
Interesante trabajo, me gusto muchísimo
Saludos
As for everyone else ... life keeps adding on the 'happy' {sarcasm}.
My neurologist decided to prescribe a more powerful tool to manage the pain in my feet. So, he gave me a foot cream. What wasn't obvious was the non-prescribed 'side effects' of the foot cream which included ... (sigh) ...
Well, as my feet have been hurting like sons-a-bitches, I was slathering that cream on three and four times a day. It had minimal positive effect which was leagues ahead of the pain I was going through. Besides, it was foot cream. What was the worse that could happen?
Baclofen (2%) ~ [Lightheadedness or fainting, trouble seeing, severe tiredness, weakness],
Cyclobenzaprine (2%) ~ [Anxiety, restlessness, seeing or hearing things that are not there, severe drowsiness, fainting, or confusion],
Diclofenac (3%) ~ [Sudden or severe headache, or problems with vision, speech, or walking],
Gabapentin (6%) ~ [Behavior problems, aggression, restlessness, trouble concentrating, moodiness (especially in children), problems with coordination, shakiness, unsteadiness, unusual moods, or behaviors, thoughts of hurting yourself, feeling depressed, dizziness, drowsiness, sleepiness, tiredness],
Lidocaine (2%) ~ [which, somewhat stunningly, isn't trying to fuck with my head]
So I've been staggering around in a semi-lucid state for the past several days, unable to figure out why I couldn't do much, if any, writing. It took me complaining to my wife to provide some clarity.
I repeat - it is freaking foot cream!
I've stopped with the foot-crack and am back to dealing with the pain. Hopefully I'll be back to writing soon too.
